What I got for my birthday 2015

It was my birthday a few weeks ago, and so for today’s post I thought I’d show you all what I got. Just a quick disclaimer – I’m not in any way showing off, I just like reading these posts and so thought I’d do my own!

Two little bits I got were the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, as my parents’ main gift was money and they wanted to pad out my gifts. I have already used these and I love them a lot!

I then also got from my parents the Clinique Moisture Surge Moisturiser. I am thrilled to have this as am running out of my current moisturiser, and I want to try something a little more luxurious.

From my friend I got this washbag with stags all over it, which I adore as I love stags!

Stationary and books:

From another one of my friends, I got this Ted Baker pencil case/make up bag. I personally will be using it as a pencil case, and I think it is absolutely beautiful.

Another gift from a friend were these WHSmith gel pens. I always have the trouble of my gel pens smudging at school, and so hopefully these will change that.

I also got this beautiful agenda. Inside it has a spotty pattern, and the quality is amazing. It will definitely be helpful as I am trying to become more organised!

My friends all know how much I love stationary, and this gift is a testament to that! My friend got me this beautiful hardback notebook, which has a magnetic closure.

I got ‘Far From The Madding Crowd’ as well. I’m so excited to read this book after hearing about the film (which I have yet to see). This book is lovely as it is part of Penguin’s Clothbound Classics, and I am thrilled to add it to my collection. I have done a post about these, which you can read here if you’re interested in them.

Another present from my mum was this book, full of hairstyles. This will be so helpful as my hair is thick and difficult to tame and I am always looking for more inspiration!

From my best friend, I also got this tshirt with Tony Stark’s Arc Reactor on the front (which I am actually wearing as I write this post). This shows how great her memory is, as about a month or two ago we were discussing how we could go Marvel themed with Iron Man and Captain America shirts to see ‘Captain America: Civil War’ when it comes out next summer. This shirt fits amazingly and I will definitely be wearing it to see the film!

Another stag themed gift from my friend was this dainty necklace. I find, personally, gold is much more flattering for my skin tone, and this necklace is no exception.P1010108

This gift from my best friend (she really does spoil me) is probably my favourite. It is a gold bracelet with ‘Partners In Crime’ engraved on it. This is so special as we are in a group chat with that as its title, and I adore it.

I also got this mirror from my mother, which has two sides, with one more magnified than the other. This will be so helpful when applying my makeup in the mornings, as I will be able to see more clearly.

P1010116The last thing I got from my best friend was this photo album. This is filled with a number of photographs documenting my time with my friends so far. I love this as it is so thoughtful and is amazing to look back on!

I am so grateful and lucky to have received these gifts. Again, I am in no way bragging or showing off, I just thought I would make this post because I enjoy reading them myself. I did receive money from some relatives and friends, and so hopefully will have a haul coming up in the future!

Florida Haul

Hi everyone! A week or two ago, I went to Florida and bought some things, and so I thought I’d show you what I got. I’d have to say though, the one thing I did notice was how difficult it was to find the right shade with no testers in the drugstores!

Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Normal/Dry Skin in the shade Nude – $9.98

I’ve been struggling with dry patches showing through foundations by the end of the day for a while now, and have been looking for a foundation suitable for dry skin. I saw this in Walmart and decided to give it a go. It promises to “wear for up to 24 hours” and give a “flawless look” with a “lightweight feel”.

e.l.f BB Cream in the shade Buff – $6.00

Having never tried any e.l.f products before, I spotted this brand in Walmart and had to try something, as it’s difficult to get hold of in the U.K. This is my first bb cream and it looked like a good, affordable option for summer. It has SPF 20, which is a bonus. However, I would say that the shade range isn’t great with this, as there are only 6 shades. Buff is the second lightest, and when picking foundations I’m usually the third/fourth lightest, so this bb cream may not be suitable for those with very light skin tones. It’s meant to “minimise fine lines” and “provide a natural tint of colour for seamless coverage”.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind  – Eraser Dark Circles in the shade 120 Light/Pale – $7.94

I’ve heard a lot about this concealer being a multi-purpose one, and wanted to see for myself. I got shade 120, but it does come out a little lighter than it looks in the tube! This product is pretty self-explanatory – it’s meant to diminish the look of dark circles under the eyes.

Glamglow Thirsty Mud Hydrating Treatment – $19.00

I’ve never tried a Glamglow mask before, and so wanted to try one out. I did only buy the small tester size, as I’m going to New York in a few weeks, and can always buy the larger version if needs be. This mask is meant to do exactly what it says on the tin – hydrate your skin, which I’ve been needing a lot lately, although this will be more useful in the winter. What also appeals to me about this mask is that it can be used in a few different ways; it’s clear, so on the plane, as an overnight treatment, or just a 5-20 minute (depending on how much time you have) mask.

Kiehl’s Eucalyptus Lip Relief  $9.00

After getting off the plane, I was struggling with chapped lips, and needed some instant relief. This lip balm, after a few days’ use, really cleared them up, and I’m thrilled with it!

Converse in burgundy – $45

My old blue converse got too small, and so I popped into the Outlet store in Florida to see what they had. I’ve never seen these burgundy ones before, and I instantly fell in love!

Peasant style top from Forever 21 – $27.90

I spotted this top and thought it would be perfect for the transition times between seasons when it’s too cold for tshirts, but too warm for layering jumpers. This top has pretty lace detailing at the front and on the shoulders.

And that’s everything for today!

Product Empties

With my empty containers piling up, I thought it would be a good time to do a product empties post, with brief reviews.

Feb 151. The Herbal Essences Smooth & Soft Shampoo and Conditioner here and here.

I loved these two – I felt that they really gave my hair I good clean, and they left it soft and smooth. They smelt really good, and at £4, you really can’t go wrong.

2. The balanceMe rose otto body wash here.

I’ve had many compliments from guests about how good this body wash smells. However, it’s very runny, and therefore you waste a lot of the product. I didn’t find that it did anything spectacular for me, but this would be a good one to try if you like the smell of roses.

3. The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil here.

I have a love/hate relationship with this stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t! I actually find that it works best on spots inside your ear, as you can put it on a cotton bud and rub it on the spot without too much hassle. However, recently, I’ve found that it hasn’t really helped with the reduction of facial acne.

4. The L’Oreal Paris Triple Active moisturiser here.

I absolutely loved this moisturiser. It wasn’t too heavy that it felt like it was weighing down my skin, but at the same time it left it soft and moisturised. Overall, a very good and affordable pick!

5. Clarins Wonder Length Mascara

This is honestly my favourite mascara ever. On me personally I’m not a fan of big, voluminous lashes, especially because I wear glasses. Instead, I prefer to just have them lengthened so that my eye is widened, and this mascara did just that. It creates natural looking lashes whilst separating and lengthening them. I’ve looked online for it and am struggling to find somewhere where it’s in stock!

6. The Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Nose Pore Strips here.

Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with these pore strips. I have blackheads around my nose, and I was hoping they’d help remove those. However, after using up the whole packet, I didn’t notice that any of them had made a single difference.

And that’s all for my empties! Now to start collecting again.

How to style a basic tee

Basic tees are just a must-have for any wardrobe. Whether they’re v-neck, crew, scoop neck, it can often be difficult to know how to jazz them up a little. Personally, I’ll be focusing on the v-necks and crew necks.

1. Add a scarf

2. A long necklace   Photo on 29-06-2015 at 13.12 #2       3. If it’s long, tie it in a knot.

4. Statement necklace.

5. Tie a shirt around your waist to add some shape.

6. Patterned trousers or leggings. (Sorry for the out of season leggings – these were the only patterned ones I could find!)

7. A bold lip if you’re in need of some colour.

Jewellery Arrangements

Jewellery can be a tricky thing to organise, and for a while I’ve been having trouble trying to store my necklaces without them getting tangled. I wanted a low-cost option, as I didn’t want to splurge on an expensive jewellery box when I have nowhere to display it.

So I’ve got three suggests that I wanted to talk about, as I’ve tried each of these on my long journey of jewellery organisation.

1. A jewellery stand.

I actually received this stand as a gift, and I really do love it. It’s brilliant for storing a small number of necklaces or bracelets, but once I had a number of longer necklaces on it they kept getting tangled and knocking the shoe over. This led me to find an alternative storage option.

2. Little boxes.

This is probably the least attractive version of the lot, but it really is quite convenient! If you have little boxes that you can put in your drawer, then putting necklaces and bracelets in these could be very handy as it’ll prevent them from getting tangled. I used two little pots I had received as gifts, and then the boxes Thomas Sabo charms come in.

3. A card holder.

This is my newest approach to the jewellery storage situation, and at the moment I’m loving it! This is a christmas card holder that I found in John Lewis, and I’ve just hung the necklaces in the places where the cards would go. I think it’s a really original storage idea and looks really good, too. Currently I have hung it on a nail on the wall beside my vanity.

Taylor Swift at Hyde Park

On Saturday 27th June, I was lucky enough to go and see Taylor Swift at Hyde Park. She was amazing! I thought I’d just show what I wore, alongside some pictures from the night. The aim of this post is to give you an idea of what the event was like, in case you want to go next year (or whenever it’s repeated).

Photo on 29-06-2015 at 16.09

As pictured above, I wore some high-waisted jeans, paired with a crop top from Hollister. I chose a flowy one, as I wanted to give off the ‘festival’ vibes, and also keep myself cool. Although you can’t see it in the picture, I also wore my gold Topshop Infinity necklace.

I had a pretty good view of the stage, considering I only went to watch Taylor Swift and therefore joined the crowd later than many others. My friends and I decided to go up later, which meant that we could only see Ellie Goulding and Taylor Swift. Not wanting to spend too many hours in the crowd, I spent Ellie Goulding’s performance on comfortable beanbags, whilst still being able to enjoy her music.

As we bought Diamond tickets, we were able to have access to the ‘Garden’, meaning we had access to food stalls, and also the aforementioned beanbags and other chairs. A little gift bag was also included in our ticket, which included a tshirt, notepad, and a lanyard.

P1010061I have to say, it was a lovely atmosphere. There were over 65,000 people there, but it didn’t feel like it! I was off to the side, and thankfully wasn’t too swept off in the crowd. Others were, however, as you can see by the pictures below!

imageeeimageeOverall, it was an amazing night. I would definitely recommend getting diamond tickets or other premium ones if you’re going to a BST event, as you get early access (if you want it), large seating areas to have breaks in, and are also separated from the big crowds by netting and fences.

June Favourites

As the beginning of July rolls in, I decided I should do my first ‘monthly favourites’. Unfortunately, I don’t switch up products that often, so these probably won’t be a monthly affair. Anyway, let’s get into it!

The Boots Botanics Brightening Toner and Cleanser, and the Rosewater Toning Spritz.

June seems to have been the month of skincare for me. I’ve absolutely been loving the brightening Hibiscus and Rosewater ranges from Boots Botanics. I bought these a few months ago, but have only started using them regularly, and I have seen them make so much of a difference. These products combined have left my skin looking brighter and fresher, which I love! The cleanser is very gentle, and the spray mixes up your average toning experience, which wakens me up in the mornings. The one thing I would say is that these aren’t spot fighting at all, so if you’re looking for something to tackle acne, then these aren’t for you. Personally, I like to then add in my spot-fighting products after using these. I use the cleanser in the morning (I use a harsher one in the evening) with the Rosewater toning spray, and then the Hibiscus toner in the evening.

Garnier Hydrating Day Care Moisturiser

P1010056For a while now my skin has been getting so dry, which has been an unwelcome change, considering the fact that all of my skincare has been tailored to oily skin! However, I got the Garnier moisturiser, which is fantastic. I’ve been struggling to find a moisturiser which leaves my skin moisturised for the whole day, without any dry patches coming up, and this moisturiser does just this. I can’t fault it!

Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer in Light here.

I seem to have a love/hate relationship with this concealer, but I’m loving it at the moment. It’s a cream product, which explains why I reach for it more in the summer. I find it covers up spots without caking up. It comes with a transparent loose setting powder, and then underneath there is the concealer. There is a peachy-coloured one to counteract dark circles, and then the more yellow-toned one for spots and redness. The only down side is the shade range – there are only two shades, and the one pictured above is the lighter of the two!

Maybelline 24 Hour Nail Polish in Rouse Poudré

P1010045This nail polish – wow! It’s the only colour I’ve been painting my nails with since I got it last month. A subtle nude/pink colour, this is perfect for those days when you want something on your nails, but you don’t want it to be a big, dramatic colour. These also last a very long time too – the last time I had them on they lasted for a week, even after a day of removing a lot of sellotape from one of my umbrellas. I haven’t tested them to see if they last for more than a week, so I might need to update this.

Infinity Necklace from Topshop here.

P1010043Finally, I have been searching for an infinity necklace exactly like this for about a year, but have never been able to find one that I like and isn’t too expensive! This necklace is subtle and dainty, and I think it works perfectly to add just a little bit more to an outfit.

And that’s it for my monthly favourites! What have you been enjoying this month?
